New York native, Victor Dinaire has done it again. Having previously released Logic Trance 4 (Logic) and EnTrance (Bonzai Italy), Victor now reinstates himself with his two new compilations, Timeless Trance-Morning and Midnight Sessions.
Victor Dinaire started out promoting clubs such as Limelight and the Tunnel, and then proceeded to take on DJing. Since switching roles, Victor has traveled all over the United States sharing his passion of music with others. Victor always plays with the spirit that bonds everyone together. Timeless Trance is the product of his love to bring together the tracks that did just that. These two CD compilations are a collection of the most influential trance tracks that enveloped us as true followers of this genre. As Victor resurrects and rekindles these renown tracks, I think you will agree that he has succeeded.
Read on to find out what Victor Dinaire has to say about his compilation, Timeless Trance, as well as his other endeavors.
Heard first from D’Sanae
D: How do you feel that Logic Trance 4 is different from what you are doing now? V: I don’t think that there is a major difference. When I did Logic Trance 4, those were my favorite tracks of 2000. The Timeless Trance compilation is first in this series of the most important and influential tunes going as far back as nine years ago. There will also be a house and techno one.
D: You’re a native of NYC, what do you feel about New York? V: I love NYC, it’s the most important city out of all of them. I try to put and make NYC my number one priority, but something always happens and it is all the politics here.
D: I want to touch base on your growth since you first came out and started DJing. Taking a look around you, who are the most influential DJs in your career? V: No one is influencing me at the moment, but in the past Tiesto and Paul Van Dyk.
D: Some people know you and some people don’t, but how are you going to change that in the future? V: In the next 6 to 8 months, I am basically going to travel like a madman, to showcase myself.
D: How would you describe your style of music? V: I have multiple themes to my three or four hour set. It can be sweet, happy, melodic, demonic, psychedelic, abstract, hard, and sad -- music of many personalities. I play Trance. I don’t know… someone else might call it something else. There are so many genres these days.
D: How do you prepare yourself before DJing, to get your mind in it? V: When I am in another town, I like to lie in bed and watch serious documentaries, for example I watched a documentary on Pearl Harbor. It puts me in a crazy mindset -- earthquakes, big floods…
D: How does that put you in the mind set? Trance and disaster? How does that add up? V: I can’t explain it, It just gets me going… almost warlike. Like I’m about to go to war with 3000+ people and try to get them hyped for a battle.
D: Interesting. When did you start this ritual? V: Like a year and a half ago. I was in a town where I knew no one. I had nothing to do and stumbled across that as a technique to get myself into the zone I wanted to be. It gets me going like I’m playing the last set of my life. It goes with my hard trance tracks that I throw down. People are paying top dollar now-a-days to go out. To play something monotonous at an event is almost a slap in the face. I want to give them a rollercoaster ride. The ritual definitely gives the extra push in my mind to deliver just that.
D: Do you do that ritual to this day? V: Yes, at every gig. I find it like something really intense.
D: Are you trying to say that your music is intense and chaotic? V: I like to call it engaging.
D: Are you going to work on becoming a producer? V: Soon. I have been putting it off as the partners I had in the past didn’t connect. I am working on singles and perhaps an album in the future.
D: Where did you hold your CD Release parties? V: I held the CD Release party for Midnight Sessions at Groovejet and my Morning Sessions release was at XL.
D: What cities are you hitting in your tour? V: LA, Phoenix, Austin, Dallas, College Station, TX, Columbus, Miami, Providence, RI Roanoke, VA, Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Hartford, CT TBA Washington DC TBA
D: Where are some of your favorite places? V: I played in Phoenix, Arizona for the first time in July and that became a new favorite place. I feel the strong connection between the people there that come to see me. They love what I do, they react to my music, and they love to party. They like the crazy music that I play, which I love. Also any cities in Texas—Texans know their music, they support that type of music, have a very strong scene, took a liking to me, and I love what goes on there. They are very open-minded.
D: If there is one place you would play where would it be? V: Gatecrasher, that’s my dream. That place attracts me. They bring in the big guys there. I’m dying to go there, that could possibly be my “Mecca.”
D: Do you have any current residencies in NYC? V: I have a Timeless Trance weekly party at Remote Lounge ( 2nd St and Bowery St) that started May 21st. Its going to be nothing but classic trance songs and somewhat based on the CDs. The other resident is Pete Schwinge. Also there’s Sound Logic at Baktun, once a month with myself, May, Spoony D and we’ve had guest DJs such as Sean Cusick, DJ Three, Joeski, and Jason Jinx. On May 23rd for example we had Cass (Cass&Slide) and Jonathan Lisle (Bedrock) also.
D: What are your future plans after the CD? V: I would like to go international; I want to hit the UK and Central America. I want to become more established in NYC, connect with the right promoter that believes in my music and wants something to do with me on an exclusive basis.
D: What keeps you going in this industry? It definitely can be a rollercoaster for many DJs like yourself. V: It’s definitely discouraging, but when I see the hard work that I put into it and I get the crowd reaction that I want and they are giving back to me, then that justifies the blood, sweat, and tears. Then I realize it’s all worth it.
